Our Last

Our Last looks back on Iwan’s childhood memories of visiting his Taid (Grandad) in North Wales with his cousins, and the deep sense of family tied to that place.
The project was triggered by the passing of his Taid in January 2023, transforming grief into inspiration and offering a way to process the memories shared with his family in North Wales.
The work brings together family archive images of people and place with new photographs made in collaboration with his cousin, responding to themes of memory, family, and loss. The project also incorporates 3D technology, adding sculptural elements that explore fragmented memory, as well as the creation of “ghosts” through garments Iwan made specifically for the project, fully embracing the idea of absence and presence.
The title Our Last comes from an archive photograph of his Taid and his wife. On the back, he had written, “Our last summer together 2002.” Iwan’s grandmother passed away that summer, and the title stands as a quiet tribute to both him and his words.
